In the Philippines, a wedding theme is not part of every couple’s idea of planning a stylish and extravagant wedding ceremony, it is simply not popular, but in other parts of the world, a wedding theme is one of the most influential and important wedding elements.
A wedding theme adds glamour and style to the preparation and ceremony, it is where the process of the organizing and planning are based, and it helps transform a simple wedding event into the most memorable and romantic ceremony. Unfortunately, most Filipino brides failed to recognize this very creative and most fantastic element of the wedding celebration.
Having a wedding theme makes the whole preparation very much easier. We’ve heard several comments and testimonies of couples who have just married that the planning and organizing stage of a wedding event gave them so much stress and tension, the most common complain is how to choose a motif, flowers, vendors, venue, etcetera. Now, if you have a specific wedding theme, these concerns would not really bother you in the long run.
A wedding theme will act as a guide to the whole preparation, so much like a wedding planner. It is where the whole elements and essentials of the wedding ceremony will be based, plus it adds mystery and excitement to the whole event, making your simple wedding the most memorable event in your lifetime. Remember, you don’t need huge amount to make your wedding grand and memorable, a simple creativity will do.
These are some of the most popular wedding themes today and the representation they exude:
Victorian/Turn-of-a-century (classic, timeless)
Beach/Hawaiian (fun, exuberance)
Springtime (relaxing, fresh, vibrant)
Countryside (classic, relaxing, cool)
After choosing a specific wedding theme, you can proceed with the planning process with each step and choices of vendors, elements and essentials are based on the characteristics of the wedding theme you choose. You may discuss this element with your wedding planner as you go along with the preparation.
Personally (if ever I would get married ^____^), my top choice for a wedding theme is “SPRINGTIME”, because I always love the attitude of spring—vibrant, cool, captivating, relaxing and fun. There are plenty of wonderful things that a spring season promises: beautiful and sunny environment, lively and vibrant surrounding (because leaves and flowers begin to spread its loveliness), with these characteristics, Spring reflects a beautiful and happy marriage, a wonderful beginning of a deep and lifetime commitment, a fresh and vibrant bond, a brighter and radiant married life, that’s why I love Springtime!
Springtime wedding theme is not only appropriate to choose in the month of March or April, any month of the year, a theme can be suited, so as long as you know how to organize it.
Here are the elements and essentials of a Springtime Wedding Theme:
Motif – a bright shade (Pomegranate, Magenta, Cotton-candy pink, combination shades of evergreen, yellow and baby pink). To create a more dramatic and romantic springtime motif, try making a two or three-shade combination: Powder blue and Magenta, Pink and Evergreen, Yellow, Magenta and Evergreen, Powder blue, Lavender and Pink, you may add a shade of ivory to each combination.
Reception venue – in the garden with a landscape of flowers and plants with minimal decoration. Ideal time should be at 8:00 in the morning because it is where the beautiful rays of sunshine spread its magical thread above the leaves.
Foods and drinks - Because the time is in the morning, foods to be served might not be a proper meal. Offer your guests with mouth-watering canapes, coolers, fruits and pasta. Serve it in a plate with bright colours to reflect your theme.
Wedding Cake – Something with a floral design. You may choose wedding cupcakes instead and decorate it with fun and exciting designs. Cupcakes add glamour to the ceremony because it will serve as additional backdrop to the celebration. Scatter it in a separate table and distribute it to the guests just before the wedding toast.
Flowers – flowers that represent a springtime, of course, even if I want to, Cherry Blossoms are not available in the Philippines and these are not available also before or beyond March and April. Other blooming buds will be a good choice: Pink Tulips, Roses, Orchids, Hyacinth, Birds of Paradise and Dahlia.
Now, you know why a wedding theme is a must in every wedding planning and preparation. If you are a future bride, you may start doing your own research about wedding themes and pick your own. The most important point in choosing a theme is that, it should be based in your lifestyle, taste and preferences. Talk to your spouse-to-be and discuss this element.
